Tense and dangling

Would you say the past tense of podcast—and the past participle, for that matter—is podcast or podcasted? My vote is podcast.

Podcast. To my ear, "podcasted" sounds like a vaguely sexual term of derision. "Yeah, he thinks he's hot with the chicks, but he's just a podcasted old motherfucker."

Ew.

Yes, the ear has it. Parallel construction with broadcast.

I heartily agree on both points. If you can say that you have euphony and etymology on your side, then surely you are unstoppable.

Euphony, etymology, live together in perfect harmony.
Side by side on my laptop keyboard, oh lord why don't we?

If you use broadcast as a comparison, then either would be acceptable thought podcast, like broadcast, would be preferred because it sounds more better.

[identity profile] shunn.livejournal.com 2006-02-23 09:08 pm (UTC)(link)
It is preferred because it sounds better, or does it sound better because it is preferred?

[identity profile] petal-pusher.livejournal.com 2006-02-23 09:35 pm (UTC)(link)
The egg, of course. Or was it the chicken?

[identity profile] shunn.livejournal.com 2006-02-23 09:41 pm (UTC)(link)
Parts is parts!

[identity profile] holyoutlaw.livejournal.com 2006-02-23 10:00 pm (UTC)(link)
So the egg and the chicken are lying in bed, and the egg is smoking a cigarette and the chicken is looking embarrassed, and the egg says, "Well, I guess that answers that question."

Stop, boss! Please! I'm dyin' here!

Boss, Boss—you're stepping on my best lines here!

[identity profile] shunn.livejournal.com 2006-02-24 02:25 am (UTC)(link)
Be glad that's all I'm stepping on.

I guess I'd go with "podcast" and the "broadcast" analogy, but "podcasted" doesn't really offend me.

[identity profile] shunn.livejournal.com 2006-02-24 07:51 pm (UTC)(link)
It would if you saw that podcasted old fart mackin' on the chicks.

A podcast is a group of whales starring in Broadway's Blowhole: The Musical.

<groan>

I have to go krill myself now.

(Anyway, sir, everyone knows Blowhole is playing in the Village!)
