Just a quick note, since it's been a long time since I've posted anything.

Since last time, Laura and I have found a new apartment in our same neighborhood. We don't have to move until January, so the stress of apartment-hunting is gone. Only the stress of the actual moving remains, but we have plenty of time to pack.

[livejournal.com profile] bobhowe and I had a fun weekend late in October in Boston, where we went for a mini-reunion with some of our fellow students from Clarion '85. Joe and Gay Haldeman, our second-week instructors, were on hand for the first day of reunioning as well, and a great time was had by all.

Laura and I spent a long weekend (just past) in Madison, Wisconsin, for the World Fantasy Convention. Lovely, lovely time with good panel, good food and drink, and good friends old (Jeff Ford, Mark Rich, et.al.) and new (Hal Duncan, et.al.). And, again, drinks with Joe and Gay.

And happiest of all to report, I'm listening to the brand-new Kate Bush album, Aerial, and I'm happy to report that it's easily her best since Hounds of Love. As it bloody well should be, after 12 years of silence. Harumph!

Nice to see from you! I'm glad you found a new place and don't have to move far. Say more?

It's a great place, and the equal of our current apartment in most ways. First floor of a house, roomy, nice kitchen. The yard isn't nearly as big, but there's a door out to it from the kitchen. And of course the rent goes up by about 50%.

A nice kitchen is worth a lot, though not a 50% increase in the rent (sorry, ow, that's gotta smart).

When are you guys coming to visit meeeeee?

The increase is a bite in the shorts, yes. But we've had it easy until now.

When are you guys coming to visit meeeeee?

There must be an SF convention in SF next year, right?

Heck if I know. But if there is one, you know where we're going for lunch.

Glad to hear about the apartment. You've got help for moving day if you want it, just let us know.

Can't wait to hear the Kate Bush.

I think Laura is resolving to make movers do ALL the work, but you can come to the new place afterward, drink whiskey, and listen to Kate Bush!

Ahh, I can feel a little less nervous about getting the new Kate Bush knowing it's gotten a thumbs up from you. :)

There's so much fan anticipation & high expectations riding on this album!

:-)

It's truer to her aesthetic, and much less slick and commercial-sounding than The Red Shoes was. And more unified than The Sensual World.

It's divided into two suites, just like Hounds of Love was, except this time each suite is a full CD of its own.

Get it!

So how's Ella liking the new place? (I imagine she has a fondness for Hounds of Love, perhaps thinking it's dedicated to her.)

Ella is still clueless about the move, and I'm not sure why she starts howling when we put Hounds on....

Ah, got it. I didn't pick up on the timeline there. Well, good luck with the move when it comes ... in January ... in the snow ... with the frost-covered bodies of New Year's revelers still frozen to the lamp posts they French-kissed thanks to drunken bets....

So happy that you got Aerial and liked it!! I must, must .must get my copy tomorrow. I probably should have pre-ordered it, but these things happen.

Congratulations on finding a place, though I'm sad to hear that Astoria is raking people over the coals financially. Still- If you guys love it, and Ella is happy, it's worth it. You really seemed to enjoy the neighborhood-you can't beat Astoria's commute time- and so I'm very happy you get to stay.

It's not so much that Astoria is raking people over the coals, though there's a bit of that. It's more that we've been paying a wildly deflated rent for the past four and a half years, and we're fuckin' spoilt.

And thanks!

Thanks for the update, I've been wondering what you have been doing.

Also a lot of work. Like, at-work sort of work. I did 14-hour days or more for some of September and most of October.

I appreciated the story you emailed me! I was laughing my ass off. I'd love to do the same to the missionaries around here. Really, all I want to do is have the poor sods over to dinner, but they seem to avoid me.

If you haven't seen or heard them already, here are some other Mo'-ronic stories you might enjoy: "The Missionary Imposition (http://www.sensesfive.com/sybilsgarage/issue2/samples/shunn/the_missionary_imposition.php?page=3)" and "The Fanatic in the Street (http://www.shunn.net/radio/hw030809.html)." That second one is an audio file, another memoir excerpt as read on WBAI a couple of years ago.

Good news on the new apartment. That's excellent. I hate moving, myself, and have been known to stay in a dump just to avoid the stresses of moving.

And crap! If I'd realized you guys would be at WFC, I might have been more inclined to make arrangements to get there!

We decided pretty late to go to WFC. But we're already planning on WFC in Austin next year!
