At our November 5th edition of Tuesday Funk, co-host Andrew Huff delivered another fistful of his patented seasonal haiku, and it sounded just a little like this...

My lack of sideburns,
like so many surprises,
is temporary.

Man and woman and
woman and woman and, yes,
man and man: all love.

Today marriage is
defined by nature, not "god"
here in Illinois.

Chef Charlie Trotter:
talent, tyrant, reinventor.
May he rest in peace.

Fortune smiles brightly
on the gambler who chose
Bears over Packers.

And if you enjoyed that, please come out to our next event on Tuesday, December 3, 2013, which features readings from G.P.A. (Greatest Poet Alive), Jocelyn Geboy, Davis Schneiderman, J. Michael Grey, and—in his final appearance as a Tuesday Funk co-host—William Shunn! You won't want to miss it!

At our October 1st edition of Tuesday Funk, co-host Andrew Huff delivered a fistful of his patented seasonal haiku, and it sounded just a little like this...

October is now
Chicago Artists Month, but
what about the rest?

Fall in Chicago.
Break out your jacket, sweaters
and shorts and t-shirts.

The Fall Equinox
only confirms the season
now matches the weather.

The US Haiku
Department is closed due to
government shutdown.

At our September 3rd edition of Tuesday Funk, co-host Andrew Huff delivered a fistful of his patented seasonal haiku, and it sounded just a little like this...

Fifty years later,
King's dream is still unfulfilled.
Does freedom yet ring?

Here's to long weekends,
Reminding us that life is
Not just about work.

Finally arrived:
Summer sweat, hot and humid
On the city's neck.

Sitting in the car,
Labor Day traffic crawls on.
Vacation delayed.

And if you enjoyed that, please join us at 7:30 pm on Tuesday, October 1st, 2013, upstairs at Hopleaf, for an evening of Glitter & Mayhem with James Kennedy, Noël Jones, Holly McDowell, Maurice Broaddus & Kyle S. Johnson, and William Shunn & Laura Chavoen.

At our July 2nd edition of Tuesday Funk, co-host Andrew Huff delivered another fistful of his signature topical—but not tropical—haiku:

Some lucky people
are a haiku on their own.
Eden M. Robins.

This rain will not stop.
Our homes will soon float away.
Chicago renewed.

What I'd like to know
is when July's heat arrives,
will you still complain?

Supreme Court in June:
DOMA and Prop 8 struck down;
same with voter rights.

Since Bill's in New York
might Tuesday Funk now become
a two-state reading?

And if you enjoyed that, please join us at 7:30 pm on Tuesday, August 6th, 2013, upstairs at Hopleaf, for an evening with Bradley P. Beaulieu, Jac Jemc, Steven H Silver, Maggie Jenkins, and Dmitry Samarov.

At our May 7th edition last week, co-host Andrew Huff brought us a fistful of fine haiku ripped bleeding from current headlines:

Bombs, explosions, floods:
this April found our heartstrings
and pulled them hard.

April's heavy showers
brought destruction, but green too.
Just in time for May.

Three found in Cleveland:
Amanda, Michelle, Gina.
Three devils found too.

Ernest Hemingway
was known for daiquiries and
extreme brevity.

If you enjoyed that, we'll have more video from the evening coming up in the next few weeks. And please join us at 7:30 pm on Tuesday, June 4th, 2013, upstairs at Hopleaf, for an evening with Darwyn Jones, Heather Corallo, Lawrence Santoro, Mare Swallow, and G.P.A. (Greatest Poet Alive). Don't miss it!

At our April 2nd edition last week, we welcomed new co-host Andrew Huff and introduced a new monthly feature of Tuesday Funk—Haiku by Andrew! For his debut appearance, Andrew dropped these spring verses on us:

"March Madness" for some
means college football games.
Others, bitter cold.

The lion is drunk
on green beer, shots, and snowfall.
The lamb may be late.

April showers in
cold spring, tucks wet hair under
an Easter bonnet

Chicago spring is
an act of faith that all will
be warm soon enough.

If you enjoyed that, we'll have more video from the evening coming up in the next few weeks. And please join us at 7:30 pm on Tuesday, May 7th, 2013, upstairs at Hopleaf, for an evening with Suzanne Clores, Mary Beth Hoerner, Robert McDonald, Dion Walton, and former co-host Sara Ross Witt.
