One of your host's favorite signs downtown is this on the Allerton Hotel. Though the Tip Top Tap on the building's upper story closed in 1961, the landmark sign remains. (This photo was taken by your host's wife from the C-View lounge on the rooftop of the nearby Affinia Hotel.)

When all my dime-dancing is through, I run to you

It sometimes seems like tourists in the Loop are incapable of walking up State Street without stopping to snarl pedestrian traffic as they snap pictures of this iconic piece of Chicago signage. Your host could not resist the temptation himself on a hot August night last year, though the crowds heading inside for the show had already brought all motion on the sidewalk to a halt.
